Our Impact, our Plans

  • Our Materials

We currently use 100% natural and sustainable fabrics at Lowri.

100% Linen: The super fibre that becomes softer and more pliable the more it is washed. It gets better and better! In the production of linen, the whole Flax plant, is used for a variety of end uses and there is no waste. It can grow in poor soil, using far less water in its consumption than standard cotton.

GOTS Organic Cotton: GOTS (global organic textile standard) is a worldwide leading textile processing standard for organic fibres. It means growing without pesticides, herbicides and GMOs. Organic agriculture is a production process that sustains the health of ecosystems, soils and people. It also sets high standards for working/social conditions.

Our smooth uncoated Wallpaper is made of a mix of cellulose pulp and recycled Polyester sourced from recycled plastic bottles.

  • Our Packaging

All packaging we ship your fabric and swatches in from our Studio is Recycled and Recyclable.

Our mailing bags are double layered Kraft paper to provide support for your cloth against rain on transit. We may ship your order on a roll, which is recycled, and compostable plastic covering.

Our headers and notecards are all made from FSC certified recycled fibres and can be recycled. Please remove the staples if you would like to recycle your header.

Our suppliers and printers also ship to us using recycled plastic and recyclable rolls.

Please let us know if you think we could be doing better.

  • Our Practices

All our collections are designed and printed in the UK.

With our fabric printing supplier, all wasted fabric cut offs are recycled waste fabrics are collected by a recycling specialist who shreds them and uses the resulting fibre as bioenergy, incinerating it to create heat sources and electricity.

For printing we use Azo dye-free inks and are OEKO-TEX certified. Oekotex checks for the presence of hazardous chemicals in the dyed fabric. It checks for carcinogens, azo dyes and other chemical limits in accordance to the European REACH standards.

All our products are digitally printed. Digital textile printing reduce waste as well as power consumption. Further, water wastage and ink consumption are also reduced by the use of digital textile printing equipment.

Our Cushions are all made to order by a lovely local maker in London.

  • Our Plans

For every purchase in the UK we donate a portion of our profits to Rewilding Britain via work for good - A registered charity whose aim is to return large parts of the UK back to its natural state and encouraging the return of wildlife. For more information, please visit www.rewildingbritain.org.uk

With our UK sample orders, we ship them with a sachet of bee-loving wildflower seeds. So far we have sent enough to cover around 500 sqm2 of the UK in flowers.

In order to reduce textile waste we offer a bring back service where we will cover the cost of return shipping of any used and unwanted Lowri cloth from the UK that it is still in good condition. We will find ways to reuse, repurpose and recycle the cloth and bring life into it again!

We print to order so have little wastage, but if we do have small scraps from sampling, we donate these to local schools and sewing clubs in East London. Most recently they have been made into masks, gowns and bags for local hospital staff.

Our teeny tiniest scraps get chucked on our compost pile, as they are all 100% natural. The worms love em.
